Heat stroke is a very common problem and can become a life threatening situation rather quickly if action is not taken to treat your pet.  Older or overweight adults and puppies less than six months old are at greatest risk during the upcoming summer months.  A heavy or dark hair coat also increases risk.  A dog’s normal body temperature is between 100 and 102.5 Fahrenheit.  Once core body temperature rises above 104 or 105 Fahrenheit the situation can become grave.

Summer vacation season is on it's way and many of us are considering taking the family pet along.  There are a few safety tips we all need to heed when out and about with our pets in the late spring/summer time heat.  Never leave a pet unattended in a car on a hot sunny day.  If you must only leave them for a short time as possible with the windows down to allow air flow.  If a pet must be kept outdoors make sure there is access to shade in an area that is well ventilated and has access to plenty of fresh clean water.  Leaving extra water bowls on days of extreme heat and providing a wading pool to aid in self-cooling may be necessary.  If taking your pet hiking take along a pet water bottle (or travel bowl) along with plenty of fresh water for both you and your pet.

If your pet does become overheated you may notice excessive drooling and panting combined with weakness or lethargy.  In extreme cases bloody diarrhea, vomiting, seizures, collapse, and death can occur in a matter of minutes.

Immersing your pet in cool water or running the hose over their back should be started immediately.  Also encourage water intake or offer ice cubes.  In mild cases this may prevent the situation from escalating but you should still have your pet evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible.  In worst case scenarios chilled IV fluids or stomach lavage with cold water to lower core body temperature may be necessary to prevent severe brain damage and death.

With this in mind enjoy your summer outings with your pet, but remember to keep an eye on the thermometer and adjust your activities accordingly to make sure everyone stays cool.

                                                                                                                Thank you, Dr. Amy

Contrary to the common thinking of other people, animals are deeply affected by global warming too. The unpredictable weather makes life difficult for the animals too because everything is happening unexpectedly. There were days that are too hot, while there were also days that it would rain too hard. Death because of heat stroke among people and animals have been happening lately. As much as we want to protect ourselves, we should also protect our pets too!

Printer error codes appear each time you encounter some problems during the printing process. HP printers have varied codes when compared to other product brands such as Lexmark, Sharp, Panasonic or Brother.

Can also use a hanging pot that can be placed under the surface of the shelf, so that the entire shelf can be used more optimally. Make a hallway formed like a path with grout grass.
